Why Hotels Should Showcase Healthy Snacks in Their Minibars

March 29, 2017

Let’s face it – hotel minibars aren’t exactly known to have a wide array of good snacks. Most of it is prepackaged with a rather long shelf life. Of course, from one standpoint it probably cuts down on the food budget. However, it stands to reason that offering healthy snacks that are actually attractive to customers could be a really smart business move.

As society keeps learning about the relationship between chronic illness and the foods we eat we are finally figuring it out. What we put into our bodies has a direct correlation with how we feel, how much we weigh, and what types of ailments that affect us. For example, a diet high in fatty foods that are highly processed often leads to obesity and diabetes as well as high blood pressure. However, a diet low in processed foods but high in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats often leads to higher energy levels and less stress on the body overall.

More and more people these days are making positive changes to how they eat. Not dieting but making conscious lifestyle changes. This could include eliminating dairy, cutting out processed foods, and exercising more. We should be able to keep that positive momentum moving forward even while traveling.

On the other hand, many of us throw caution to the wind while on holiday or vacation. We eat foods that we normally wouldn’t eat at home – we often splurge more than we should. But if healthy options in the hotel minibar were available that would certainly allow you to stay on track a little better regarding your diet.

Hotels often offer spaces to workout in as well as pools. It makes sense that offering healthy options in the rooms would probably be attractive to customers. Fresh fruits and vegetables and less processed items would probably fly off the shelves much quicker than that sad bag of petrified food that probably has expired.

We shouldn’t have to forgo our healthy habits when staying at a hotel. Travel is stressful enough sometimes, and having healthy options is infinitely better on our digestive systems as well as our own peace of mind.
